I want to know do all the other characters have there own poster just like Ray? If so will they be sold in stores or on this website? Let me just say I'm really waiting for this movie to come out, and I want to be a filmmaker what tips would u give someone who wants to make movies.

Rico:

Don't know if we can sell these things or not. They're owned by Universal, but we can give it
a shot. I would certainly buy a few. You want to make movies? Hustle your ass off and learn
to write. If you can both write and direct, you increase your chances exponentially. You gotta
make yourself grind, day in, day out and don't oblige bullshit and naysaying. That's how you
make movies.

Would love to see other types of advertising collateral like presskits, and not just from the U.S. but from abroad as well. It would be great to compare the ad campaigns from different regions. And as long as you're taking requests, how about any behind-the-scenes vidoes of Reynolds, Keys, and others going through weapons training...or do you want to save that for the DVD

Severin:

Let me see if there are more electronic press-kit things that I can post that aren't going on the
DVD. I'll try to find the behind-the-scenes stuff of that gun training. It's pretty amazing footage
and you really get an idea of how fast they both were.

Posted by: Bana 12/27/2006 at 11:17 PM
This is probably out of the question for a few dozen reasons, but if you posted a chunk of your M:I-3 script, I'd die happy. Hell, even a page...

Bana:

I can probably do a page without getting sued. What I want to do is show you guys the Pre-Viz of
the opening I had for the film. If I can throw that up, I will and make them issue threats of lawsuits before I pull it. I doubt they will though.

Contests could be an idea.

How about one where it's some kind of trivia thing and I will get the winner a copy of one of the
unused posters or something we all deem worthwhile.

Posted by: mikemdc 12/28/2006 at 01:37 AM
I rented NARC,got into it and about an hour in the dvd skipped beyond recognition.I went to the other video store and it was out.So my request is for a copy of NARC signed by you.
Now that's a manly request.

Mike:

Leave your address and we'll see what can be done. Sorry about the skipping. You'd think they'd
QC those things more often.

Posted by: Roxana 12/28/2006 at 01:49 AM
I would love to see movie clips from the shooting, behind the scenes with Alicia, Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Common :) Any funny things u can tell from the shoot? movie quotes?
We wanna win something (tickets, posters)here, so yeah contest would be great idea! :D
And important question is: Do we see you and cast at the UK premiere in London?
much luv!

Roxana:

I don't know sweetie. I would love to jet on over to jolly ol' for the premiere, but I think we're
all doing a ton of press back here and you folks have the honor of seeing it a full two weeks before
the rest of the world. I am working to put up some different stuff, but I'm a novice 'webmaster' HA! and can barely find the keyboard, much less do some dazzling site work that enables me to show you
all the things we've got. I'm working on it though.

Posted by: muzzleflash 12/28/2006 at 01:58 AM
Yeah, I second the idea of getting a section of the M:I3 script - but let's not kid ourselves, if we're going to get a section, we might as well ask for the whole thing. Let's see if a Barrett .50 can hit that long shot!

Muzzle:

If I can do it, without Paramount cleaning out what meager savings I have amassed to this point, then consider it done.

Posted by: Shalimar 12/28/2006 at 01:58 AM
Roxana kind of beat me to it. Is there going to be a premiere in the UK and will you be in attendance?

Shalimar:

Love to get there. Don't know if it's possible. I hope it kills over there though. You guys will really dig it.

Posted by: Princess of Peace 12/28/2006 at 06:57 AM
I am looking forward to seeing Aces. I just wanted to know if you are still going to make Killing Pablo? It sounds like it could be another great one.

Princess:

Love that moniker and love your fondness for violent films that much more! Do you see the paradox in that? Classic! Yes, KP is still in the works. I've just got to get through 'Bunny Lake' and 'White Jazz' first and then I'm going to try to make that one. It's still my favorite script and the one that really gets my blood pumping with possibility.

Posted by: Shanti 12/28/2006 at 07:45 AM
This is my first time posting a review on here. I can't wait for Smokin' Aces to come out! I've known about the movie since the summer when I read an interview with Taraji Hensen and she mentioned what the movie is about and her character. Can you tell us how it was working with alicia keys and common, knowing that this is their debut film?

Shanti:

Alicia and Common are fantastic. They both came into this process without any pretense and without
a shred of ego. Anytime you can make those things a permanent part of the playing field, you're going to yield great results. You won't be able to identify them as first-time actors with the performances they handed in and that's the best compliment I can pay them. Their work is perfectly intergrated with the other performances and the rest of the film. It's seamless.

I could give a fuck about seeing a million different poster concepts -- I want real insider information from a working filmmaker, not some running advertisement for Smokin' Aces. I'm beginning to think this site was suggested by the marketing department to reach out to an Internet audience and nothing more. And that's fine, but in order to do that you're gonna need some ACTUAL CONTENT. Still a big fan, but your blog is a snooze -- oh, and the comments appearing in ALL CAPS are driving me fucking insane.

Enriko:

Bro, ease off the throttle, ever so slightly. I got it, but you have to be specific. What do you want to know? Insider information of what variety? How to stuff? What? I'm down to answer, I just need to know what those things are. And hell YES, this site is a marketing tool! This is how you build awareness for the film and get people interested and anyone that says otherwise is full of shit. Anybody that is going to take time out of their lives and visit this site and participate, should be given some reciprocation. I think the concept posters are cool as hell and if they existed back when 'Raiders of The Lost Ark' was around, I would've eaten that stuff up. I'm here homie. Just give me specifics.

Scripts Joe, please. I'm a huge fan of Narc, counting down the days to see Aces. I understand if you don't want to put the Aces script up before the movie opens, but the Narc script or BGBO would rock. Dan Gilroy's MI:3 script? Anything. Thank you.

Cbow:

Working on it dude. I'm going to make the I.T. folks at Universal put a hit out on me, they're going to be working on this blog so much.

Posted by: Omnivisor 12/28/2006 at 11:18 AM
How about a poster of a giant spade with bloodied bullet holes all throughout. The bloodier the better...and if banned by the theatres, you would then have a very sought after collecter's poster many would drool over...a definate must have for the fan base. Of course, this is just a thought. :)

Omni:

I might have something close, but not the blood man. The MPAA is not down with those depictions. If you want to see it done really well and probably pushing it, look at the 'Black Dahlia' poster where they got away with it, by saying it was lipstick. WRONG. Very creative stuff though.

You know that comic spokin of in that BNAT video you posted?

Vin:

I will put up a page of that, how does that sound? It's going to launch next week, but I
actually have it on my computer.

Joe -

Saw the movie at the press screening (though I'm not press) at the Century City AMC. Went with a couple of buddies and we all fucking loved it, man... You were correct in your pre-show annoouncements that it does get a bit heavy, but we were with it all the way. Will say that all four of us knew the twist before the reveal, but we're pretty big movie geeks and not much gets by us. Anyway. Excellent work. The movie just kicks ass. The cast was excellent... Nice to see Tommy Flanagan on screen again (poor guy just wants to play a romantic role), and Common and Keys impressed the hell out of me. Talked to your brother a bit after the screening too. Can't wait for your next one, man.

Thanks for responding back Joe.

thanks for the response!I sent my address concerning the NARC dvd to you via Devin's smokin' joe questions, if that's ok.

This is some good stuff this site. Finally some good directors like Joe and Sly Stallone getting in touch with filmenthusiasts and fans. This builds up a much bigger buzz amongst moviegeeks then the 30th ad on TV.

And definitely do some contests but only if also people from other countries besides the US can compete and let me win okay because otherwise you're forcing me into downloading this movie and I'm completely against that sort of thing.

Hey Joe, greetings here from Ireland. Just started on a carear in filmmaking and one thing is constantly on my mind. When pitching your idea for a movie to a producer should you a, push the quality of an idea/script or b, the selling and marketing point. Just finishing off my first feature script on not sure how to sell it?

Cheers

Tony

Good sir,

Last night I took my grandma, youngest cousin and his older brothers pregnant ex-girlfriend out for dinner. Nothing fancy, a bar and grill with a tv and good food. Needless to say it was an edgy evening, what with the young lady looking to be having my grandma's first great-grandchild whilst its father licks his imaginary wounds in another womans house with her own two kids. Anyway, I and my youngest cousin were diverted from conversation not once but four times by the tv on the wall, 90 degrees to our right each and every time the Smokin' Aces trailer played. No mean feat especially considering that neither of us was even looking directly at the TV to begin with. The trailer has its own magnetism. Needless to say, Im pumped about seeing it and would strongly urge you to urge your schedule to make allowance for your attendance at the UK premiere.
I just re-watched NARC with the commentary, and I'm a commentary connoisseur by the way; very good commentary.
Come to the UK, you'll be looked after.
Okay, one quick question - do you read 100 BULLETS by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso?

Posted by: Tony 12/31/2006 at 01:07 AM

Mr. Carnahan,

Big fan of NARC. Can't wait for ACES. A couple questions.

1) I'm a huge James Ellroy fan. Without giving anything critical away, what particular problems are you finding in adapting "White Jazz?" Seems like you've got your work cut out for you, but I also think you're probably the best-suited writer/director for adapting Ellroy. Good luck with it.

2) imdb says you're working on a remake of BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING. I always thought that was a movie with an interesting premise that didn't take full advantage of it. Was that what attracted you to the idea? AND
I've long thought - despite the inherent difficulty with the marketing - that mediocre movies with promising ideas should be remade rather than classics that cannot be improved upon. What are your thoughts?

3) Great move casting Javier Bardem as Pablo Escobar! He floored me in THE SEA INSIDE. (okay, that was an observation more than a question)

4) Last question, I swear. Have you ever considered adapting any of the hardboiled classics like Chandler's "The Little Sister" or Hammett's "Red Harvest" or Woolrich's "Rendezvous in Black?"

Thanks for your time and keep making movies with balls.

Thanks for responding to all our suggestions and comments, Joe. And I love the fact you're updating even through the "holidays." Now that shows dedication! I think it sucks that something you wrote automatically becomes property of the people you wrote it for without letting you show it to other people as a sort of "portfolio" piece. Other artists get to create things for clients and show it off for future reference, why can't you? ! If you need the fans to help shield you from Paramount Legal so that we can enjoy your M:I3 script, just ask us!
