No matter how remiss I may become as a parent, no matter how negligent, I'll
always be able to throw this one back at my daughter Maile. "DADDY GOT
ALICIA KEYS TO SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!' As I stand there, social outcast and
profound professional failure, swathed in greasy burlap bags that I've fashioned and
stitched into a bizarre street frock by using a box-cutter and dental floss, clutching
that ever-present bottle of bourbon and sweating off a months long bender as I destroy
her high school graduation ceremony.

Ahh, but that's tomorrow. Today, I'm her hero!

when I try to splain to folks what a rockstar you are, I don't tell them it's your DJing abilities, or ample use of "meat-spray", but how you always included yer kids. and I use this moment as the perfect example. nomatter how gnarly the carnage was that day, you always had time for the bambinos. role model for us all...

As a father, I can speak to that desire to be thought of as a "cool dad"...among the all the "put that downs", "Not today, may tomorrows", and "it's time to turn off the TV and go to sleeps", you hope to fit in a couple of instances when they can look back and think, "He wasn't such a goof ball after all..." and I must say sir, this ranks up there pretty good. Way to go papa.

That is all too cool. Being a father myself, it's a very difficult and delicate balancing act we juggle but a very fulfilling one.
