SCORSESE! 02/26/2007 at 10:24 AM

It's about fu*king time they handed a statue to that man. He's going to
be 65 in another month and HE'S JUST NOW GETTING LOVE FROM
THE ACADEMY!?

Jesus! Let's not even discuss 'Raging Bull' being beat by 'Ordinary
People' or 'Goodfellas' getting shut out by 'Dances With Wolves'. It
took them WAY TOO LONG to recognize what is by my estimation,
the greatest visual stylist modern cinema has ever seen.

I'm glad 'The Departed' won best picture too. It's nice to know there
are still instances where an honest, albeit brutal depiction of violence
in a movie that pulls almost no punches, can be recognized by a
largely prehistoric voting body and therefore one given to more touchy
feely fair. Scorsese's victory is an affirmation to all that you can't keep
a good man down and in the end, talent is the only true aristocracy.

No doubt!! And how kick ass was it that they had Coppola, Spielberg and Lucas presenting the award? Not that they knew ahead of time, of course...

Happy to see Scorsese FINALLY geting his statue. Disappointed that Little Miss Sunshine took Best Original Screenplay instead of Pan's Labyrinth. That was very, very disappointing. And what happened in the Best Foreign Language film category? Pan's Labyrinth should have had that as well. The Lives of Others looks like the Conversation minus the flavor that the latter film had.

The Departed deserved the attention it received last night. Way to go Scorsese!

ps Have to ask if anyone else noticed that Lucas' throat, or lack thereof, was very distracting. It is almost as if he is growing another head under there. Could not keep my eyes off of it. Nice way for Spielberg and Coppola to "truthfully" say it is better to receive than give. Poor Lucas...that close to an Oscar, must have been painful. Hell with his money, I'm sure he doesn't care.

I have to agree totaly Mr. Scorsese deserves the golden statue. He is one of the most brilliant directors out there today (You Mr. Carnahan are pretty damn good yourself). And I was so glad to see The Departed get best pic. It shows even with over 200 F Bombs, and lots of violence a film can still be criticaly acclaimed. Because most of the time a film like the Departed is snubed for its violence! Which is shit in my eyes! Now if you could just get a golden statue Mr. Carnahan the Academy would be alright in my eyes!

Scott

PS NARC is one of my fav. films of all time! I am a aspiring Police Officer, so its nice to see a film get everything right!

Whilst I agree that it's nice to finally see Scorsese win an Oscar, something inside me can't help but find it a little worrying too that the Oscar for Best Picture is awarded to (correct me if I'm wrong, but for the first time) a film that is in fact a remake!

I will admit that I have not seen The Departed, but I have seen Infernal Affairs. It was my sister that brought this to my attention, as she screamed out asking, "How come The Departed wins Best Picture, whereas Infernal Affairs gets nothing?" I had to try and explain that maybe the film wasn't even forwarded to the academy back then.

Still, I will try and get around the watching The Departed (for it seems to be a quality remake). Though I hope that the studios still decide to give original material a chance, rather than buying the rights to everything that comes out of China, Japan and Korea!

Sadly I missed the Oscars. I hoped Smokin' Aces would at least be nominated, but oh well. Everyone I know thinks it was great, and as long as people like it, that's good enough for me.

Joe, not to sound pushy or anything, but when are you going to answer those questions?

April 18th for the Aces disc? Alternate endings. Over 20 minutes of deleted scenes and outtakes. Didn't see a mention of a commentary track. Also, will there be a DTS track on the disc, Joe?

April 17th on the Aces disk. A commentary would be awesome, but I cant complain with 20 minutes of deleted scenes. I wonder what the alternate ending will be like(scripted version perhaps?) The artwork is pretty nifty as well(actors faces not cut off)

Thanks for the clarification on the date Alec. I glanced at the date quickly and for some reason I was stuck on the 18th. Also, do you think that the HD-DVD version will boast even more content due to the increased storage on the device?

Yeah I was diggin' the artwork as well.

Totally agree, so glad Marty, Monahan, and Departed won.
