'THE GREY' 03/13/2007 at 02:31 PM

Guys:

Right now I'm finishing up a spec script that my friend Ian Jeffers
(Death Sentence) and I started writing some time ago. He had an amazing
short story called 'Ghost Walkers' that I purchased for the purposes of developing
it into a screenplay. Almost two years have gone by and multiple passes between
the two of us but it's finally shaping up into something great.

In terms of Man Vs. Nature stories, I couldn't be more proud of what this has become.
It's pretty f*cking terrifying and Ian wrote one of the best plane crash scenes ever put
on paper. It's basically a first person account of 737 slamming into the Alaskan
tundra and it is pitch-perfect in its rendering.

I'm just trying not to screw up the rest of it.

Very bleak at times, very upbeat at others. The characters and the situations
are so good and the action is tremendous.

If I can post it, I will...AFTER I set it up. HA!

Sounds pretty cool Joe

Now would this be something you would hang onto and Direct, if and when it becomes a film?

Joe,
Ever watch the show MAN VS. WILD? I wish you the best of luck with it. A 737 crashing into the Alaskan tundra? I am there, guaranteed.

Sounds awesome, can't wait. With White Jazz, Killing Pablo, and now this, I'm totally psyched to see what's next.

I was pissed to hear about the problems with "Bunny Lake", but it's solid to see that you're using this time to tune up other material for future use. Atta boy. "White Jazz" seems to be priorty now, a project that demands a lot of prep and concentration, so it's for the better that ample pre-production time is alloted. I imagine that you don't get the flixibility of "Smokin Aces" with that kind of material, despite the fact that it dictates a similar level of risk and energy. As was the case with "Aces", the important thing is attempting to do something fresh and new.

Hola JC,

One of my favorite films is “Blade Runner” directed by the great Ridley Scott. That film is a visual masterpiece and was ahead of its time, no pun intended. I’m not sure if Philip K. Dick ever got to see the final cut of this film but I think Ridley Scott did him proud. Since you appointed Kevin as your blogging publicist I’m going to volunteer to be your arm chair agent for the moment. Since White Jazz is around the corner and Killing Pablo has been your burning pet project I’ll assume that you are booked up for the next two years or so. After you finish those two films I have scheduled you to direct the sequel to “Blade Runner”. In the meantime I need you to contact Ridley to see if he will be the Producer and if he owns the rights to the sequel. If you could also contact Harrison Ford
and Sean Young to make sure they are available in about two years that would really help with the continuity of our sequel. Let’s make sure we get Ford on board before he does Indiana Jones, we don’t need Deckard running around with a broken hip. Give me a call if you encounter any problems. I’ll get back to you as soon as I chew through my straight jacket.

Take Care,
DanV
