The shooting at Virginia Tech is something so profoundly sad that to sit here
and try to quantify and understand it seems utterly superfluous. The damage
that has been done to the friends and familes of the victims will continue to
ferment long after the media has turned its collective gaze to the next burgeoning
tragedy. We can only offer our greatest grief and sympathy. I can't imagine what
those poor people must be going through. The pain that has enveloped them.
I hope it passes just as quickly. I pray it does.
The inevitable knives have come out for the entertainment industry's
role in this horrible ordeal. 'Oldboy' Chan Wook Park's 2003 revenge film has
been cited as probable inspiration for that asswipe's senseless slaughter of thirty-two
innocent souls...and it just doesn't ride. There are sick, deviantly, deeply disturbed
f*cking people roaming this rock and movies HAVE never been and WILL never be
a mitigating factor in extreme acts of hatred and violence. The demons that whispered
to that pathetic piece of shit were working the wheel and grinding the gears long
before 'Oldboy' ever appeared on the 'New Releases' rack.
Don't blame anybody but that lunatic and whatever lack of proper parenting
contributed to his condition:
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR KIDS. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR UPBRINGING. TRY
TO FOSTER DECENT, LOVING, RESPECTFUL CHILDREN.
The rest will work itself out. I promise. I've got two absolute winners that bear my
last name and NOTHING I ever accomplish or contribute in my time on this earth will
equal what they mean to me. They are my most precious thought at all times.
Other parents, fathers just like me, lost all that on monday.
Children: Young, brilliant, bursting with everything good and new and hopeful, were
cut down. Whatever you believe in. Call it God, call it Nature, call it the Universe.
Please put them in your prayers. Hope that there is a world after this one and that
each and every one of them is at peace.
If you've got kids, give 'em a big hug and hold 'em...you can't do it enough.
