THOUGHTS ON DVD/ANSWERS TO NAGGING SH*T 04/18/2007 at 12:07 AM

Guys:

Glad everybody jumped out and got their copy. A few things I want to
apologize for/clear up:

1. Up until monday night, which is the first time I got to actually put the
DVD in and watched it, I was under the impression that the Tremor Bros. rampage
was there because we provided Universal Home Video with the entire sequence
for them to do a sound pass on and we did this as we just completed editing the
theatrical version. My assistant was told that they're saving this now for a
'Special Edition' which burns my ass a bit, since I've been telling everybody it's on
there and I look like some shyster asswipe selling snake oil.

2. The 'Cowboy Ending' wasn't touched at all which also grates the sh*t out of me.
You can hear our A.D. Justin Muller countdown '3...2...1.' and then it's the gunshots
and glass breaking SFX right off the AVID. I'm sure to some of you, that's cool, but
it's really not that cool with me. Again, if I'd known it was going out that way, I
probably would've bitched and not allowed it to happen. I wish the QC was done
a little earlier and I could've flagged it and made the necessary changes.

This should be a potent reminder to every filmmaker reading this: LEAVE NOTHING
TO CHANCE. DON'T TAKE A SINGLE SECOND OFF OR THINGS WILL FALL THROUGH
THE CRACKS.

In the end, I could blame the home video folks but it's my fault for not being completely
thorough, right down to the very last detail. I will not permit something like this to
happen again.

If this 'Special Edition' really is in the offing then there's still some great
stuff you guys haven't seen. So hopefully we can really cram it and make
the purchase worthwhile.

I'm glad you're digging the commentary. I loved having Rob along because we were
essentially welded at the hip. Jon Gilroy and I did the same thing on NARC and it was a
blast.

Okay guys. Hope that clears up some of the nonsense. Again, I'm sorry for the
confusion to begin with.

JC

Joe,
Thanks for clearing things up. I haven't gone out to buy my disc, mainly I'm waiting to see what Uni decides to do with some type of HD release. This is probably some of the reason for a planned SE. I'm not sure what's up with the "brains" at the studios, but their constant inflicition of the "double-dip" upon the consumers is starting to be a royal pain in the ass. You never know if the version you're buying is the best version or if they're going to force you to think about buying a future release. What do you think the filmmakers can do to help this situation, if anything?

Yeah, you gotta watch the little things. If something can be done wrong or badly it will be.
The last DVD release that I was involved in my brother and I cut and produced all the content (including a feature length 'making of' doco) because we knew if we didn't do it then no-one else would.
I will bebuying the DVD (primarily because I loved listening to the Narc commentary and can;t wait to hear this one) but I live in the Uk so will just have to be a bit more patient than you lucky Americans.

Now if only George Lucas listened to his fans....

Mr. Carnahan, thank you for clearing things up. Its good to know there are still those in the industry that give a damn what their fans think. Kudos man.

Regarding things "falling through the cracks" with the DVD, I submit the following:

"Sh*t gets wild and crazy, it just up and f*cks ya for no good reason, ya know, it's the way of the world, way it's always gonna be..."

Hang in there Joe, we'll get 'em next time!

Joe,
This disc was def. worth the money. If a double dip takes place I will have no problem with upgrading.

Picked up four copies yesterday and plan on passing them out to my friends tonight.

Joe, the dvd delivers on so many counts. Did I read about a potential double dip? I will definitely dip back into this well again.

Usually I am completely against the idea of a studio raping their films and fleecing their consumers out of their hard earned cash for a double dip, triple or quadruple dip. Anchor
Bay is notorious for this with the 9 million versions floating around for the Evil Dead films. Although sometimes, and very rarely, a doulble dip makes you appreciate the film more.

Personally I love the idea of a double dip completely loaded to the teeth with extra bonus content as long as the content is new and not based on anything from any other version of the film's prior dvd release.

Joe, bring on the double dip!

Kevin

ps Congrats on the video release!

Got mine last night, can't complain though, I was itching to get this beast on DVD. I would've loved to see the Tremor Bros Sequence last night, but I'll jump at a special edition or even just a cool new cover. I'm a little bitch that way. Also, I happened to like the Cowboy ending quite a bit. With some good editing, I think it could have been even better than the theatrical one. And to boot I bought mine at Best Buy and it came with SA Trading cards! How cool is that! So I guess I'll just wait for the Peter Jackson treatment coming sometime around the holidays!
