Kids:

Well, the folks got suckered into a time share situation after all.
Anything that will peel Pops out of that leather recliner and get
him out into the world, can't be criticized too heavily. I just begged
him to never couple the black socks and sandals, regardless of his
age, or clothing ensemble. I think he understood.

Back up north and hopefully headlong into a spec sale situation.
I'm all done with 'The Grey' which I think kicks ass and is something
that for awhile, I was just thinking I'd write (along with my friend Ian
Jeffers) and find a director for so I could produce. Now, after
dumping blood, sweat, time and toil into said process, that original
plan requires some revision. I don't know what we're going to do with
it. The script could be considered sacrosanct in some respects. The topic of
faith is a touchy one as I've written a main character who professes to be
an Atheist, yet by the end, you could call into question exactly which forces
intercede on his behalf: Cosmic, Karmic, or the good old Hand Of God.

It's a great read and in terms of it being a pure action film with zero fat, it
certainly fits the bill. In lieu of not knowing what the hell will become of 'Pablo'
it could potentially be my next film. I don't want to think that though. I'm
doing the hard press on Javier Bardem (after reading 'No Country For Old Men'
then catching some of his scenes as Chigurh, he MUST play Escobar) so we'll
see how that shakes out.

Gone is my bitterness of a day ago. Del Sol down here, does that. Drains away
all the caustic parts of you (along with gallons of cold Modello Light)) I've had a blast.
Got to hang with my brother-in-law (who is fluent in Spanish) and therefore, got
the drop on all the great local places. Learned to salsa dance with my sister's
mother-in-law (who is from Juarez) so all in all, it was time well spent.

Love the reactions to the prequel/sequel 'naming contest' it's just an idea I'm
spitballing for the moment. I'm sure it brings sufficient legal headaches for
Universal's Business Affairs but let's hope not.

Alright, packing it in here, back to the great salt lick that is LA this evening.

Being an atheist myself, that sounds really interesting, Joe. LOL!

Joe,

Congrats on completing "The Grey". Religion or faith is always a difficult subject to tackle, whether in conversation or in written form. While writing the script, did you struggle with your own beliefs towards faith or were your beliefs firmly in check throughout the writing process? Being a father in today's climate requires me to constantly keep my beliefs in faith, and/or something greater, always in the forefront of my mind. Without faith, there is no hope. God, I sound like a carny version of Falwell.

As far as Bardem goes, he has beem receiving a heap of great praise for his role in that film in almost every review from Cannes.

Glad to hear so much activity continues on your front. Thank you for continuing on with these entries and providing such an entertaining read for my mornings.

ps Black socks and sandals, eh? Sounds like a Gladiator styled flick for the elderly set.

Good luck with The Grey, sounds good to me.

Haven't seen the clips but everyone seems to love Bardem in No Country, Oscar nom for him could definitely push Pablo along.

I'm sure the film will see the light of day, Joe, no matter the subject! You have a lot better position than most writing specs and I can't imagine you're actually writing specs, in the original sense of the word, because all of your stuff would be read by the "higher ups" and not have to be filtered through a "reader!" Obviously that's a privilege earned! Rightfully so.

And tell Universal to relax, I don't think anyone around here is going to be jumping at a lawsuit for a simple name! I'd assume most of us are here because we like your work and you're cool enough to take 5 seconds out of your day and throw us a shout-out!

Peace.

If you're going to look back at the Tremor Brothers:

1) The Tremor Brothers: Ballroom Blitz

2) The Tremor Brothers: Blitzkrieg

3) The Tremor Brothers: Undone

4) The Tremor Brothers: Unhinged

5) The Tremor Brothers: Bloody Rumpus

But I must add that I don't see any particular reason to follow those characters; they're sadists with, perhaps, an affinity for Hitler. I think that you presented them very well for the purpose of your story, but the fact that some have found them "likeable" is troubling.

It's just an observation, and I hope that you and the visitors of this site don't mind; nonetheless, I appreciate your work. :)

BTW, when The Damned recorded a cover of that song ("Ballroom Blitz") in '79, Lemmy ("Ace of Spades") guested on bass.

Take care.

Joe,

Damn! You've seen another teaser for another comic book adaptation?! You are cornering the market on these things! So...how did it look?

Also, is this Loreal spot going to appear on here, your blog, for all of us to see?

Hey, dude, I am so glad to here you are doing one of my favorite books, White Jazz. I haven't read in in years but glad to see it's in good hands, you are the right director for that piece. I hope it's as raw as NARC, my favorite film of all time. I am glad to see you teaming up with the producers that produced it, maybe you will have the luck with the same group, it seems to work that way. Is Ray Liotta producing it as well?
Good luck, lookin forward to that one.
