WRITER'S BLOCK-ADE AND A DIP INTO SIN CITY 2 05/01/2007 at 09:12 AM

Guys:

You ever been in one of those epic ruts when you just cannot, for the life
of you, push through? That's where I'm at right now. Trying to finish this
script and that just feels like I'm hitting a wall at 110mph, over and over
and over...Eventually those constant collisions produce results...They always
have and maybe in my advancing age my patience is thinning right along
with my pate. (KIDDING! I have a full, lustorous head of hair!....for now)

Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday and showed me what
may become the teaser for 'SIN CITY 2' and HOLY SH*T is it something. I
don't want to let any cats out of any bags, so all I can say is there's not a
hetero male moviegoer alive that's not going to deeply DIG that spot.
Remember, he's doing 'A Dame To Kill For' and brother has he got it.
That guy's enthusiasm for filmmaking is infectious too. A solid bloke
and a good soul.

Alright all. Back to the grind. The grating, metal on metal kind.

He should let you guest direct a scene in Sin City 2, eh?

Lucky son of a gun!!! I thnk if RR does anything near what he did with sin city 1, for sin city 2, it's going to be phenomenol. I hope Ava Lord is as beautiful and manipulative as she is in the book.

Oh, and you guest directing a scene like Q.T. did, would be a fantastic idea and something special to watch man.

Sounds great, is The Grey the script you're hitting a wall with?

Just the phrase, "Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday..." is pretty cool in its own right, but I digress.

I know from where you speak, and it feels somewhat comforting to know that regardless of income level or status (the afore mentioned Rodriguez comment) hitting that "brick wall" is universal (that's universal with a lower case u)...and when that happens to me, I close the laptop and turn on the DVD player and watch some old favorites from those who inspire me, and usually it gets my mind off the process and back into the realm of good storytelling, and BAM, ideas pop. Or, if not, at the very least I enjoyed watching a good flick, but invariably it does spark something (as it did in the first place) and I'm back to the laptop.

Hope that brick wall crumbles soon!

Joe,
Walls will come tumbling down....Wish you luck and support.

So one would assume Ava is cast, right? Cool....

Are you still signed over at RSA? Was cruising their site and stumbled onto your reel again.

It's funny in writing, you can sit for two hours and try and pound it out and nothing... then you wake up at 2am and boom! there it is! I think it's difficult to step away because you feel like you're there and getting somewhere and you need to be moving and pounding it out, but taking a breather is always good.

For my latest comedy, I'm using a site to post "scenes" and get feedback, while I'm writing the actual script. Being able to take a step back and listen to what other's say - while writing - I've found effective.

And, if all else fails Joe - throw your plight around here or to a few of us and I'm sure ideas are abundant. Not that you need it from us, but we'll end up being the audience anyway...

"Robert Rodriguez stopped by the office yesterday..."

LOL - Just the way you said it, it sounds like it's a regular occurance (I spelt that wrong, didn't I?)

And, I frequently find myself hitting brick walls with my writing and it sucks like a whore.

Oh, and you said "bloke".

COOL!!

Definitely, hitting that creative brick wall is universal. As I'm prone to distraction, I sometimes use hitting the wall as an excuse to "fart around" usually on the internet. But somehow, something always manages to snap me back into the proper mode and I can finish what I was supposed to be doing.
I'll have to agree with everyone else, the fact that Rodriguez stopped by your office is, by itself, just a super cool thing to be able to say.
