COGNAC! 06/27/2007 at 08:39 PM

Jesus H Christo! Sorry kids. Out of contact. Lost my cell somewhere
in a heavy haze of distilled spirits and never recovered it. My buddy
didn't buy enough minutes for his phone so we were basically trying
to communicate from the f*cking outer rings of Saturn. What a hassle.

Anyway, long story short (jet lag compels this point) we won the critics
prize and the jury prize at Cognac. Since it's a festival for cop and gangster
and noir films, I don't consider that some great feat but it was a nice way
to end the trip.

Daily, yes DAILY updates to follow.

Joe,

Glad to hear we don’t need to have the Marines storm the beaches of Cognac searching the gutters, the quarries and the local pubs for your drunken remnants. As long as you didn’t lose your beer money it must have been a nice trip.

Welcome back,
DanV

Welcome back and congratulations, Joe. Any vilification you can receive for your work should only reinforce the fact that you accomplished something good. Lesser people would be satisfied with that and rest on their laurels. I don't think you are of that ilk. Can't wait to hear more about the prequel.

congratulations, Joe! It isn't quite the palme d'or, it's recognition from a film festival for a marvellous film, which can never really be discounted.

I'm with everyone else, Joe. In this market winning an award, and one of significance, is an accomplishment. Maybe it's not an Oscar, or a Palme D'or, but it's recognition, and that ain't bad.

Cheers.

Joe,

Welcome back and congratulations on the prize. Any recognition is good in my opinion.

Can't wait to hear some more about your trip.

Hey Joe,

Welcome back! Good to hear you are still with us and no search parties were needed. I have to admit we were getting a bit worried.
Good to hear about the awards too. 'grats!
Take all the time you need to recover from your trip, just glad to hear you made it home safely. And I figure you're eager to get back to work (Ha!)
'Bama hugs

It's nice winning a prize... for whatever reason. LOL!

Isn't that funny? People, while stumbling through a drunken mist, never lose their wallets but almost always lose their phones. Inhibitions and communication always the first casualities.

Glad to hear you had a great time and ACES scored the prizes. Regardless of the festival's programming geared towards the crime genre, prizes are nice nonetheless.

Kevin

ps How are the guys coming along with the script?

Welcome back and congrats Joe, it's an accomplishment regardless. Losing/breaking a cell phone is always a bitch...just lost mine due to water damage after we (seniors) decided to throw waterballoons at all the underclassmen on the last day of school! Anyway, can't wait to hear more.

Prizes? Awards? That's not what film is about. It's about scripts that take a month to write and two months to shoot (half-a-year post), but gross $100 million dollars. It's not about great scripts that take two years to write, five years to make and gross $10 million.

It's about the next wave in CGI (got another penguin script?). Great actors? Are you kidding me? Actors are props. At best they add points to my bank account.

I want to be invited to the studio's Christmas party in Bel Air, so I can chum it up with my cheesy smile. Challenge anything, are you nuts? Stroking a studio head's head is fine with me. If I get a prize for that, that's better than an Oscar.

Awards and prizes are for chumps who want their own unique, uncompromising vision... f$ck that!

Signed,

Brett Ratner
