THE PASSING OF GENIUS 07/30/2007 at 10:33 PM

The world lost two of its truly brilliant pupils today. Gone are the great
and gifted Ingmar Bergman, one of the most influential filmmakers
of all-time and the venerable Bill Walsh, arguably the most
prolific coach of the modern era.

We should, each and every one of us, strive to bring to our
lives and our craft, the endless pursuit of excellence and perfection
that defined both of these men. They enter pantheons that
most of us could only pray to be part of.

'Persona' is one of my favorite films off all time and I've been
a rabid 49er's fan nearly twenty-five years.

This one will sting for awhile.

Raise a glass when you can.

Amen to that.

Agreed.

Same day in France, we lost the great french actor Michel Serreau (he triumphed in the play La Cage aux Folles). He played in 135 films and died a 79.

Three more names on the each year even longer list of the great people who left us.

Really quite odd as a rush of deaths in the past few days, including Michelangelo Antonioni, just go to show you you better put it all on the line while you're here!

My father is a ridiculous Niners fan, Joe. Countless memorabilia from Montana and Rice. Back in the good-old days!

Put it ALL on the line ya'll!

Haven't gotten a chance to see any Bergman yet but I've only heard amazing things. Sad to see such beloved, respected legends pass.

Cheers Joe :)

Chicago is my hometown (been a Bears fan since 1984...a year before their super bowl win...when I had no choice but to watch the Bears cuz we only had one telly in the house and my dad ruled it, LOL! Plus it was kinda cool watching Ditka bust a gasket every week on the sidelines, LOL!)...but I was a Niner's fan...fair weather fan that is...up til Joe Montana left to play with KC...then i was a Chiefs fan til he retired. LOL! ...I met him, Shaq and Tiger at this now-defunct sports cafe they opened in Vegas about 9 years ago. Tiger wasn't "Tiger Woods" yet so no one paid much attention to him. LOL! Shaq was a bit "Too friendly" with the fans...and Montana had to constantly yell for him to get his "ass back on stage." LOL!

Love sports...and it's sad when a legend dies...cuz it really does make you long for the players and coaches who had integrity and a true love of the game (whatever game that was) regardless of the big payxhecks...Our generation is all about the cash...endorsement deals...and doping. Ick!! LOL!

Damn! We just lost Antonioni now, too. Love the Italian New Wave. His influence is certainly still being felt today. R.I.P.

Persona was a film that really Expanded my movie watching Horizons. Not only did it give me a different sense how a film could be presented, but also, how films could be interpretated. Sitting in an ARC film class, watching this film,Made me explore Foreign films. Amen
