...AND BREATHE.... 08/30/2007 at 02:10 PM

Guys:

For all the disharmony we've had vis-a-vis that little contest, it's nice to see the
regulars or 'road dogs' weigh back in. You guys are my heroes. Anybody who takes
time out of a busy existence, to listen to some bullshit I'm spouting, should be
commended..or condemned. I'm not sure. At any rate, I thank all of you guys and I
hope they keep letting me do this till the wheels fall off.

White Jazz news: CASTING has begun kids. There's a couple of early favorites and
I'm sure you Ellroy fans have your lists. I would love to tell you who I'm considering
for each role but I appreciate good suspense, so I'll string you along as much as I can.

Prequel news: Script came in fabulous but a bit too brutal so I've asked the lads to
tone is back, ever so slightly. Imagine that, coming from me: 'Pot, I'm Kettle. You're black.'
Maybe I'm just getting older and softer...but let's hope not.

JC

You were right. AOJJBTCRF is a masterpiece and may be the best film of the year. Then again, I haven't seen No Country For Old Men.

Anon,

Where did you see Assassination? The trailer looks awesome.

Joe,

"Too brutal," as in it would be too expensive to shoot? If not, can't they shoot the extreme brutality and add it to the Bonus Features?

BTW, how many days are you looking at for the production days on WJ?

Take care.

I'm in the middle of reading White Jazz - good luck Joe, good luck - its going to take something special. can't wait to see how you and Paul Cameron photograph it. Will there be a Klein narration? - although it won't be the usual type, it would be cool to see the fragmented type that's in the book.

Joe - and that casting address would be...?

Thanks,

JW

Joe,

Wow, so much happening for us fans here!

The prequel too brutal? Those words coming from your pen, mouth, or in this case, fingers...I would love to read that first draft! At least the boys have their balls in the right place.

Thanks for all the updates, Joe.

The reason I frequent this blog is that you dispel the myth that all filmmakers are self-absorbed tyrants who couldn't give two solid shits about their public persona and an additional two shits about their fans.

You sir, are a gentlemen and in Hollywood, there are not enough people like you.

Kevin

PS The regulars on this blog I enjoy each and every one of you as well. Take care.

JC,

Very cool hearing about 'White Jazz', I do not exaggerate when I say that it is at the top of my list of most anticipated upcoming flicks. Honestly I can't think of another director more tailor-made for a solid EL adaptation. Also, I can't help but be curious how it was writing the script with your kid brother. I have one of my own and the idea of any type of long term collaboration with him on ANYTHING is absolutely crazy to me!

PS - Speaking of Joe's writing, is Pride and Glory going to score a release date or what people?!?

I just finished reading White Jazz, and I'm anxious to see it on the big screen.

WHITE JAZZ casting? The Nigerians too brutal? This is a banner day indeed. Joe, since this will be a direct distribution film, would you have more breathing room on the brutality? I know for now it's a creative judgement by you, the originator of the story and characters, but I hope the format in which this is appearing will allow for something "more" than what would be releasable to the general masses. If anything, branching on the DVD for the 'full monty'.
I really do hope that this blog can continue in some form should the powers that be decide to pull the plug. I've been really enjoying my time here with the regulars and now some of the new faces. Until then, let's just keep pushing on!

well as far as casting for white jazz goes, i know you have now worked with ray liotta on two movies and i personally wouldn't mind seeing you direct jason patrik in another film.
