THE SCRIPT IS IN... 08/28/2007 at 06:23 AM

The Nigerians handed me the first draft of the 'Smokin' prequel
yesterday. I will read it today and try to annoint this f*cker so we
can get it up and running pronto. These guys worked FAST. Since
we broke story while Universal's biz dept. was still fretting deals
and contractual nonsense, we're now way out in front of this thing.

Updates to follow...

Great News, Joe! Please give us your impressions... I'm anxious to hear more about these enigmatic Nigerians and the quality of their work. Go, Go, Go!

Great to hear that the first draft is in. They do work fast.

Joe, does Universal have any idea as to when they hope to have this thing released? Are they saying 9 months down the line, or what?

Dude, when do you sleep?? How long does it take you to get through a script like that??

Joe,

If the finished product turns out better than anticipated will Universal swing for the fences and release this theatrically or is DTV the only route for this venture? Just curious.

Congrats guys on completing the first draft!

Joe, any chance of slipping a few characters out into the open just to whet our appetites even further for the film?

Kevin

PS What is the ETA for the announcement of the title of the film?

quick question. I know people got shit for coming here and giving title ideas and not being loyalists but my question is this: Am i a blog loyalist if ever since this blog was created i made it a daily task to come read it and see whats new in the world of one of my favorite directors but i never acctually coommented about anything?

NARC was like the free crack they hand out at school to get you hooked. I got my NARC and i couldn't wait for SMOKIN' and now im just dyin' for a hit of WHITE JAZZ.

I have to second the "Nigerians" request. All this ambiguity is too much to take.

JC and all...

Among the contests, and the political rhetoric, and the occasional photograph...I feel the coolest thing about this site is that (for me) it demystifies the "aura" around what JC does and the way in which he makes his living, and the world he inhabits.

Although I'm well aware that what we're exposed to on SJC is an aspect of JC, it's still cool that he takes the time to share that aspect, and as a person who is trying to make his living behind a camera it's a subtle form of inspiration to share in the day to day aspects of making films, commercials, and writing scripts. The only way I can describe it is it makes it feel real...the Hollywood machine in a far off distant land, brought down to earth by a guy who got a break and took full advantage of it, and continues the good karma by letting us have a peek.

I also think it's cool that folks here also share in the joy of films and other "behind the camera" exploits, and it makes a guy like me feel a little less alone, and a little less crazy, for loving the creative experience.

Thanks and cheers to Joe and all the rest...you make a hard day easier to bear, and the good days sweeter to enjoy!
