THE OTHER PABLO SCRIPT 09/21/2007 at 06:58 PM

Kids:

I'm not in any way shape or form, what the youngsters these days refer to as
a 'hater.' Some douche who wants to drag someone or some thing down because
they're either threatened or jealous or a combination of the two. I don't believe
in it and I'm always the first to extol the accomplishments of not just my friends
but other peers whose work I admire.

THAT SAID:

I just read this other Pablo script called simply 'Escobar' and I can say
with great confidence that it's simply....dogsh*t. Wow. If you're gonna make
a movie about Pablo you gotta do better then some hackneyed, hagiographic
'Scarface' knockoff. It would've been great if the script had been solid.
Stern competition is good for the soul...but this one is so lacking in the very
basic tenets of dramatic storytelling that it comes off as this amateurish,
cardboard account of what was the single greatest criminal legacy of the last
century.

But this is what happens in a pre-strike enviornment: Garbage gets foisted from
all corners and studios, eager to cram the pipeline put insufferable sh*t like
this into development. Deeply disappointing.

And they better hope Pablo is actually dead. He gets wind of this script and it'll create
marked men overnight and have fresh bullets flying anew.

I feel for you Joe, but keep in mind, that with the dog shit getting spewed out now, it will only make real work look all the more impressive by comparison. Think of it as an artistic Darwinism of sorts, balance in nature, the great rubber band of karma, all that shit.

Here's hoping that it won't get far, then.

Look on the bright side, It'll make "Killing Pablo" look that much better.

Was the script by any chance entitled:
"MedellĂn" starring Vincent Chase :)

Hey Joe,
Can't wait to see your next film, bro. BTW, Friedkin was right...Narc is the best cop genre pic ever. Anyway, enough toosh-kissin'. Hey, I'm a Promotions editor/producer/shooter in Sac and an indie filmmaker. My latest short film is about an option that desperate young women have to dumping their newborns in trash bins, and that's called the Safe Surrender Law. My short's called "Life", and I'm trying to raise interest/help in getting it to festivals (and ultimately, high schools). Wife and I are trying to get some exposure for this story and save a life or two or more. Anyway, would love to send you a copy if you'd care to check it out; see if there is something, anything you can do to help. If you're saying, "Bro, cut to the chase, are you asking people/me for financial help on this?" Yes, that's exactly what we're doing. Marketing and film fest submissions for this baby-saving project are costing a fortune, and we're just looking for some help. My last short was distro'd to 70 countries via the Spiritual Cinema Circle, and my first feature won Jury and Audience at Sac FF a couple years back, among other awards. We met a few weeks ago at the Sac Fest, not that you'd remember. Anyway, anything you can do...
Regardless, Joe, you're an enormously talented writer and filmmaker. All the best to you and yours. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope I haven't embarrassed myself. Then again, for this kind of project, I'll risk it. Peace.

I'm sure their film will be an utter crapfest, much like Stuart Little, The Phantom and Plan 9 From Outer Space rolled into one.

Whereas Killing Pablo will be absolutely amazing.

I have faith, Joe. Don't let me down.

What's with all these people on the Pablo IMDB message board talking about Medellin like it's some real movie?

LOLOL!!!

"And they better hope Pablo is actually dead. He gets wind of this script and it'll create
marked men overnight and have fresh bullets flying anew."

Haha, I heard Billy Walsh's script sucked too.

Is it discouraging that so much sh_t makes it into the pipeline Joe or does it just give you the sense that you're at where you're at for a reason?

With so many people in the pipeline, it's not surprising that dogsh_t gets through, but for all the people at the bottom of the chain (currently attempting to claw out of) that claim to know everything under the sun it is amazing to me that most make a living and don't seem to know jack (especially in respect to storytelling).

Spoke with an agent who yelled - HIGH CONCEPT! HIGH CONCEPT! GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD! So, I looked up his sales and his one sale, thus far, was a story about a girl who auctions off her virginity to pay for an operation her father needs. WTF!

BTW - Is Clooney's rib injury going to delay WhiteJazz?

Peace,

JW
