Kids:

Here's your boy hoisting Oakley's RED Camera, which boasts an impressive
4k ability and resolution the likes of which are seldom seen. Their 2k output
is amazing. I think the biggest push back they're going to get, oddly enough
is from the acting community. To say the image is 'unforgiving' is an understatement.
You can count an actor's pores in a medium shot. It's really incredible. No variable
shutter speeds which make it a little limited but its accessability in terms of cost
and its flexibility (I saw the colorist pull at least three stops, comfortably, out of a
shot without a spot of grain) make it a legit contender to come. I'm going to try to
do something on this system, in Sacramento, with all local talent and money. It would
be great to get back to a six or seven man crew and just go wild. I can't wait.

it looks hefty, but considerably smaller than rigs of the past. And it sounds fantastically fun for getting those really interesting shots that other cameras can't get so well.

Something I should save for with the chump change I'm gettin. Curious to know the price.

Wow! Immpressive. Does that mean the end of any "good side" for on-camera talent? :O)

I'm pretty sure the shutter speeds are just not unlocked yet. The first batch of shipped camera's didn't have all the features -- but they will be unlocked in the near future through a software update. As far as I understand it anyway.

Man, carnahan with a red is going to interesting.

As a tech-head, that is a beautiful sight, Joe. Looks kind of heavy. How about lenses, do standard HD lenses from various manufacturers work or are they kind of limited at the moment? Can you get a focus puller rig on it as well? Can't wait to see some images from your experiments.

Nevermind about the "hefty" comment, just found the website: http://www.red.com/cameras and Soderbergh it's light enough to use one-handed. Impressive works being shot with the camera now. Should be interesting seeing the results from the respective directors.

Impressive camera. Thanks for the link muzzleflash :)

Joe, when you say: "I'm going to try to
do something on this system, in Sacramento, with all local talent and money. It would
be great to get back to a six or seven man crew and just go wild. I can't wait.". Do you mean you're going to shoot a short movie or something of the kind?

I hope we'll have the chance to see the (even unofficial) result when done ^^^

Hey Joe -- I'm sure you know already but check out HD For Indies for serious coverage of this camera.

Been following news of this camera. Saving my pennies so I can actually buy one.

For those interested, there is a short movie (part of a larger one, I believe) called "Crossing the Line" by Peter Jackson. Have a search for it and be dazzled by the quality.

And seeing Joe using one. A beautiful sight. :)
