JUNIOR REDUX 10/15/2007 at 11:28 AM

Kids:

The young man playing Junior Stemmons has opted to 'boldly go where no man
has gone before' and thus, had to bow out of WHITE JAZZ. I've been talking
to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him.
I don't envy ever being in that spot but I gave him my full support, even if
it meant he didn't do JAZZ. I get it. You don't get opportunities like that
often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as
possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking
this gig, then good luck and God bless.

We're sure to do something down the road. I've already slotted him in for
KILLING PABLO.

Very sorry to hear that.

Best of luck to him.

The search continues....

Bummer! But, hey, there are plenty of other actors out there who will see it as the remarkably good opportunity that it is.

Good luck in finding the right Junior.

Live long and prosper!

For shame! You gotta hand it to Abrams though, he's assembeling an impressive cast. Unfortunatly "Jazz" is down it's "wild card". Here's hoping that you've got some suitable canidates up your sleeve JC.

Really sorry to hear that Joe but I'm sure it's for the better. I still would love to see Matt Fox in that part, he'd kill it!

By the way JC, listening to the Creative Screenwriting Podcast and heard Jeff Goldsmith just shout you out. Those Q&A's always kick ass, digging the Kingdom one so far. Started with Gaghan's one for Syriana and have been hooked ever since.

Shame really - bad career move!

Hey JC,

Sorry to hear the news regarding Chris Pine and White Jazz. What can I say Joe, you shot yourself in the foot by showcasing Pine’s amazing talent in his portrayal of Darwin Tremor. Of course the opportunity to play an iconic figure like Captain James T. Kirk is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Hopefully the Star Trek franchise has a good script and Chris can ride that role out just like William Shatner did. I look forward to seeing him under your direction in Killing Pablo.

I got the chance to see “The Kingdom” over the weekend. The movie was very intense and it left me wired (non drug induced) for several hours after watching it. Ashraf Barham who played Col. Al Ghazi was excellent in his role and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets multiple role offers after seeing him in this. Jason Bateman proves he can still be hilarious even when entrenched in suicide bombings, machine guns and machetes. Jennifer Garner had a kick ass hand to hand combat scene, obviously her five season on Alias paid off in gold. Chris Cooper is just one cool MF. Your brother Matt and your friend Peter knocked this one out of the compound.

Take Care,
DanV

It’s easy to toss out the "bad career move" comments. But you don't know the guy, you have no idea how or why the decision was made, so don't make judgments. He had a tough time making the decision, and he did it for the right reasons. If you want to cast speculative judgments go visit the checkout stand celebrity mags, I hear Britney’s having problems.

Joe - you ever need me to step in for anyone, you know where I'm at. ;)

Peace,

TOO BAD HE CAN'T COMMIT TO BOTH - but like others have said - you showcased the guys talents. Sure it sucks having moved onto another project rather than white jazz, but the decision sounds professional, and I assume handled the same way.

The opportunity to work on a 170 million dollar movie, likely to have at least 50 million in promotion, and taking over one of the most iconic roles in our culture today most certainly be a good move. timing just sucks.

damn, trek just got better.
