Guys:

Apparently, my rather liberal blogging habits have created a bit of a situation and
my publicist is being innundated by reporters looking for casting confimations
about various actors appearing in WHITE JAZZ and PABLO.

So, long story short kids. I've been asked to curtail it in the interest of both
projects and not release any information that might do damage down the line.

I've also taken the scripts off the site so for those of you that grabbed it beforehand,
bully to you. I still might be able to put them back up in the next few days.

Shit Joe,

You’ve really piled on the homework tonight and you wiped the eraser board off before half the class got the assignment. I now have two scripts to read, one World Series game to watch along with my weekly hump day celebration. I’m going to prioritize by reading Killing Pablo before the game starts and then tackle White Jazz at my leisure perhaps with a couple of beers and the game muted in the background.

Since you wrote it, they will come.

I bagged my copies just in time. BTW, I watched the extras and listened to one of the commentary tracks of "Smokin' Aces" last night and one of my questions is regarding the "Cowboy Ending" -- was that a gag reel or was that ending a real consideration? If you went to black immediately after the shots that would have been an interesting finale.

The good news is -
you've created a ton of buzz around the internet on both scripts. Cinematical and /Film picked up the stories.

Not sure what scripts you're referring to JC, although I did get lucky enough to get my hands of drafts of "White Jazz", "Killing Pablo", as well as "State Of Play" a few weeks ago. If time allows, I should read them in the upcoming weeks.

As far as the general blogging goes, it's all good. There's no reason to damage the integrity of either project. I'd be glad to spend the next few weeks just shooting the sh*t.

Mr. Carnahan - I just finished reading Killing Pablo. That is a well written script. Whoever gets to play Pablo has enough there to grab onto to really make something special. The government official roles are well written and the way the people around Pablo are described and used is really high level stuff.

I really think you can not begin to imagine the numbers of people who are interested in seeing Killing Pablo. Pablo Escobar is worldwide. The people from the street to the suburb know him and are interested. He is in history books and folk lore. A tall tale and a real man to do a biopic about.

Also, you have upped your star quite a bit these past few days with some of the moves you have made. I understand what your pub is saying, as much as I wish it wasn't the case, it is. Putting the screenplays up in response to WOW, a bit rash yes, but an interesting move that I think will continue to pay off with the publicity.

One thing, and I know I am a collection of words for doing this: About two thirds of the way through the script Justice Minister Pardo says to Pablo, "Is it God I should be thanking? Or you?" I think he should just say, "Thank God." It fits better with the whole screenplay. The line had me thinking all the way to the end because it seemed not authentic to the intelligence and style of the rest of the script. But as one of my favorite tv characters said, I am an "aspiring wordsmith, not yet a writer." At the end of the script that was the only thing I thought about that didn't fit. Also, I made the assumption that Pablo's mom is killed by the molotov cocktails and bullet fire outside her home, at the end I was suprised to find her still alive and well in Colombia.

Thank you for the read, it made my day better.

Unfortunately I just clicked the link and started reading Killing Pablo until I finished. When I was done White Jazz was gone. If anyone would send that to my email I would appreciate it greatly and send you a warm thankful response.

Understandable, and the gesture's appreciated.

Take care.

P.S., Anticipating your final decision on a project. You've got two great projects, so it's a win-win situation. Clearly, though, the one aspect of it that is against you in the case of KP is time (don't mean to state the obvious, but it is what it is).

Damn Joe,

Just finished reading White Jazz. Great script. After reading it I can't see how Clooney could have backed out. I haven't read Killing Pablo and doesn't seem like I will get the chance now but White Jazz screams greatnes. The Script is so rich. A great reading experience. Not to mention Klien is such a bad ass and his relationship with Glenda is heartbreaking. My vote is to do anything and everything to get this on the screen now. This is a from a person who was dissapointed at first when I heard you were making White Jazz before Killing Pablo.

Joe,

How does your brother feel about all of this? What are his thoughts about which project that you should do next?

Hey Joe sorry to cause a few headaches. Always very cool to converse and really be made to feel part of the process by people you admire. I haven't read them yet and not sure if I wan't to. I like going into the theater and being completely surprised. But I'm sure my curiosity will get the better of me. Whatever happens I only wish good things for you and both projects. Thanks again for the script peeks and being a man of the people.

Joe,
You should hire a local third unit to shoot a lot of background plates and shoot the film sin city style on a soundstage. It probably won't look as real but I'm sure you'll find a perfect combination of greenscreen 80s south america and real location shooting.
Keep on truckin' man, your fans are rooting for you. Any plans to shoot this stuff digitally? It might not work for white jazz but you could def. make killing pablo in an 80s style documentary palette.
