COULD THIS BE IT...? 11/26/2007 at 08:34 PM

Guys:

I've heard it from more than a few folks that the there may be an
agreement in place to end the current WGA strike. I spoke to a couple
of agents and basically, it will be put into place and hopefully ratified
by Christmas.

This scoop is all over the web right now but it appears that everybody is
hearing the exact same thing, so let's keep our fingers crossed...

Here's hoping. If it wasn't bad enough for all the folks out of a job, many-a-project are getting the axe just weeks away from filming... just because the script can't be tweaked. It's time for this madness to be stopped.

Amen, 2 that!

...although, I will say that it's quite interesting that film projects have been halted and other productions shut down by a group of people (writers) that really aren't all that important to the process.

Makes ya think, doesn't it?

Let's hope this is true. Too many people I know who are scared shitless that if this drags on they will lose jobs.

Sh.t, we all know this was a muscle flex for both sides. One side says, "look what I can do" and the other says, "anything you can do, I can do..." well, you get the point.

And, in the end, what does it boil down to, what we knew since the very beginning, neither side can exist without the other.

Now that everyone's done flexing and measuring, let's get back to some real sh.t.

Happy Peace Agreements to All,

JW

Let's hope so, but Xmas is still a ways off and the domino effect in scheduling means there will be people out of work sometime after the new year as well. I hope it was all worth it for the studios, though. They make money hand over fist for doing nothing other than putting data on a DVD or a server. It's really ridiculous that the whole matter came to this point at all.

I've read the news on the internet too. But like I said before and like Jeffrey just said it, I think this strike could have been avoided if people were of good will. We had numerous strikes these past weeks in France and it ended the same way: why didn't the two parts put cards on table earlier and discuss to find an agreement? Government and guilds said it, they could have reached an agreement 2 weeks before.

So what's the use of the strike before the discussion? They're kinda measure their muscles, right. And that's too bad because in the U.S and in France too, people are in great difficulty because of the strike. And I don't criticize the motive because writers' is fair. Only the method.

Hope it finally ends quickly in time for christmas ^^^

RTA:

I'm going to assume you were exhausted, drunk, cracked out or all three by making the statement that writers 'aren't all that important' my brother, they are of paramount importance and that's the problem. The perception of the writer has always be someone of limited worth and lesser contribution and it's that kind of thinking that got us our present labor dispute.

Without the words, we are finished friends.

Hey Joe,

Did you happen to catch "No Country For Old Men" yet? What a damn fine film that was. One of those movies that can change the way you view the world (well, for me anyway). Good luck on your future enterprises. Take care.

I don't know about writers flexing their muscles ... I think this strike is the case of us being pushed to it by the AMPTP. Writers do not like to strike, plain and simple. And the beginning point of what the WGA came into these talks with - 2.5% and 8 cents - is so low, Nick Counter should have jumped for joy. He just saw the op to kill all residuals. And it may have backfired.

I will wait and see about this rumor -- I am skeptical for hopeful reasons: I don't think the networks will go for the 2.5% yet and I hope the WGA does not back off...
