ENTER THE DGA 12/13/2007 at 01:59 PM

Kids:

Bravo and a big standing 'O' for Mr. Michael Apted and Mr. Gil Cates for deciding to
cleave through the bulls*it once and for all and square up on the AMPTP. With nothing
like resolution on the horizon, the DGA did what any responsible union would do:
Stepped in and stuck up for its membership. It's clear by Mr. Apted's thoughtfully penned
communique this morning that the WGA hasn't solicited the DGA's advice or counsel and
without some form of partnership in place, or at the very least, the occasional
whisper in the ear, the DGA had to act independent of the striking WGA and move to
get a deal done. Both sides now have till the beginning of the year to reach a settlement
(which is about as likely as snow cone stands in hell) before the DGA engages.

'Preemption' being key. Don't wait. Act. Let the bartering and bickering begin a full
six months ahead of the current contract's expiration. That's how to do this deal and
I think it's fantastic that they're moving forward. One way or the other, everybody's got to
get back to work. We've lost enough time, money and sanity to this goddamn painful
grind and it's gotta end.

"F**kin' A, Bubba!" Let's FIX this thing!

Great solution Joe!
Have the DGA shit all over their fellow guild even though their contract is not up for another 6 months!! Its not enough that they have crossed every writer's picket line in town. Now let them weasel in with studio management and butter up the CEO's while the WGA is one of the floor in a choke hold.
Why can't people realize solidarity is the key? If the DGA grew some fucking back-bone and stood side by side with the writer's they would cripple this town and force the studios to crack a fair-deal. Instead they have opportunist pricks like yourself destroying any chance of that happening by parading around screaming "LETS GET THIS DONE!!" Getting this done does not mean whats good for them, its just whatever is good for you that matters right? I'm glad you're all for the working man of Hollywood Joe.

Your anger is acknowledged, but the response is WAY out of line, Double Ed. The DGA didn't create this situation, and they're trying to open a window to alleviate everyone's misery. Solidarity doesn't mean sitting around watching (and making) YouTube videos while a bad situation is taking food off of everyone's table. SOMEONE has to make a move, and if the bad blood between the AMPTP and WGA won't permit talks to procede at a mature, productive level, another equation will have to prevail.

As far as changing the playing field goes, the WGA should try dropping all else in exchange for writers retaining copyright.

And the men all pause...

Peace and prosperity to you, my brother.

Zen's right, the DGA are not the bad-guys here. They have a responsibility to their own. Joe's not responsible for your problems Ed, get that stick outta your ass.

Um, the DGA members have to cross the picket lines you idiot. If they don't they can be fired and replaced. Its in their contract. So much for your support of those who work in the film business.

And why is the WGA spending time worrying abut anything other than what matters in this deal? New media.

The DGA did the right thing, good move on their part. Hopefully this makes a resolution almost feasible in the next two or three months.

Eddie, Moron...the town IS shut down you schmuck! And when has solidarity ever been analogous to stupidity? Do you think every other guild should endorse the WGA's tactics 'just cuz'?? That the DGA should soothe it's membership with 'Well, it wasn't our plan, we haven't been consulted on it, there's no dialogue between us at present and there hasn't been any up until this point but dammit...let's stick by them anyway!'

What backward ass, neo-socialist sh*thead thinking Eddie! Profoundo! Profoundo! And don't ever use a writer of that historical caliber as your nom de plume. The actual E.R. Burroughs is pulling shoulder rolls from the great beyond knowing that you're out there shitting all over his 95 year literary legacy with some horribly cheap little blog handle.

And Casey is one-hundred percent correct, so piss off you little ponce and get your facts straight.
