WGA FILES WITH THE FEDS 12/13/2007 at 09:57 PM

Guys:

Good. It's about goddamn time these guys repping the WGA bared
their teeth. I hope some federal judge mandates the AMPTP's response and
forces their asses back to the bargaining table. TOOT SWEET!

Christmas can wait. This can't.

As an old teamster union steward (Local 728) I was also waiting to see when they'd throw down with the big guns.

I don't understand how any reasonable person could look at what the AMPTP is doing and not see that they're trying to break the union?

It's going to get uglier I feel, but having been through a few strikes myself...basically, it's a game of chicken...workers against management, and I feel the key to worker success is to meet managements greed with the passion of persistence and perseverance.

It's a tough road to hoe, but I feel the pain is worth it in the long run (like raising children) you know that all the hard work, headaches, dirty diapers, punishments, etc...will equal well balanced and thoughtful adults...and in this case, more balanced and thoughtful compensation for the artists and crafts people that bring the vision of imagination to life.

Good luck to all and hang tough!

I've read in the Times that directors are having the best shot at ending the 38-day long writers' strike that has paralyzed the entertainment industry. The article also says: If the directors and the AMPTP are able to agree on a new media compensation formula, the WGA leadership would have a hard time convincing its members to continue the strike for the sake of the other issues on the table. What do you think about that? I'm more puzzled everyday about the result of this strike......

I have to admit that they are right on this. What the AMPTP is trying to do is force the WGA to give up on positions without even discussing them, and that is simply wrong. Both sides need to be willing to give to get a compromise in place.

And as always, my heart goes out to those effected by this strike. Take care.

Best Wishes, Wendy

That warms my heart to see.

The longer it gets drawn out the more leverage the writers have.

Eventually studios will run out of material to play and audiences will still be hungry.

That's when the WGA should double down...
