TICK TICK BOOM... 01/18/2008 at 03:42 PM

Kids:

Another communique from the cave. DGA gets its deal ratified and done
in record time. Whether or not the WGA wants it, the pressure is here and
pretty soon it's gonna feel like Godzilla tearing Tokyo apart. Everybody's
has had enough of the strike and all its attendant mayhem but just wanting
a cessation of hostilities isn't a good enough reason to sign on the dotted line.
The WGA deal has still got to make sense for its membership and I say this
as someone who, like a lot of us, wants this sh*t done yesterday. Let's hope
enough of the DGA framework works for the WGA and they wrap this f*cker up
soon...like next week soon.

I just don't know if it can happen JC. I personally think writers have received a ridiculous amount of disrespect from Hollywood, and that truly isn't news. We all know that, its always been that way. I just can't help but wonder if the situation is a misguided attempt at getting respect for what it is writers really do, and that is, create the world that is directed, the words that are spoken, the story that is told in hopes that someday, everyone will understand that without writers, there is nothing to shoot. Actors have to be inspired, and inspiration starts on the written page. If producers, studio heads and the extremely-huge-ego'd non-writer directors out there would simply say it, writers would most likely go on their merry way, typing and typing and typing. Or maybe it's possible the AMPTP simply doesn't drink enough and they're just ungrateful-grumpy-ass abusers of the talent that has made them all fat and ugly. You know, Frank Sinatra once said, "I feel sorry for people who don't drink, because when they wake up in the morning, that is the best they're going to feel all day." In my 38 years, I've found a lot of truth in that quote.

Peace,

@Zach

Yeah, apparantly "Pride & Glory" is getting shafted again due to...

1. Norton and Farrell have movies coming up within the next few month.
2. Problems with marketing made more difficult due to the Strike.

Looks like we got another "Jesse James" on our hands. Shelved for 2 years, and it'll end up being released on just a few theatres domestically. Meaning that most people won't get to see it until it arrives on DVD sometime in late 2009. Hell, most people will have already seen "Killing Pablo" by then.

The only good thing to come of all this is that I am doing a lot more reading these days. TV really sucks and if the networks think they are going to get any thinking person excited about their up-and-coming new reality shows, well...

Saw No Country for Old Men last night. There were only a handful of folks in the theatre and heard a lady say afterward "Well, that was a waste of time."
I certainly don't agree with that.
Screenplay, cinemaphotography, actors were great.
I liked it.

It may take a while longer. They're trying to climb up out of the hole they were put in back in the 30's and 40's when writers were salaried day workers for the studios. Ever since then the average writer has had less than their fair share of recognition and compensation. It's going to take a stand by the AAA list actors before the AMPTP caves.

That's my 2 cents. Although I'd rather it be 8.

Yes, the sooner this is over and done with, the better it will be for everyone. It does seem like a good sign that the DGA got a deal so soon. This will put pressure on the WGA, which is exactly what the producers want. In other words, I just hope that light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train. But let's try to think positive and keep our fingers crossed, shall we?

Best Wishes, Wendy

THIS NEED TO END ASAP FOR SO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE. We have vendors who are so desperate for accounts they are trying to make deals which are going to end up costing them their business. And who knows how many low level folks won't come back and instead will take "regular" gigs.

Always good to hear from ya Joe.

Amen to a speedy resolution now that DGA got theirs.

Same here, I hope the strike will end soon, for the sake of everyone working in this business. ^^^
