JONES... 02/14/2008 at 07:12 AM

Guys:

Geek out for a moment with me.

If you haven't seen the 'Indiana Jones' trailer. Check it out.

It looks fantastic. I want to be 65 and still whipping ass like that.

I was eleven years old when I saw 'Raiders' for the first time and I
remember that moment, like it was five minutes ago.

Spielberg looks like he did it right, but Kaminski's photography looks off. Almost looks like they shot it on HD, (I know they didn't) it's just too clear. They should have used the older lenses they shot the first three with and done whatever it took to emulate the older film stock, even if that meant going to Kodak and telling them to manufacture a million feet of the older stuff. I am sure they still have all the formulas. If anyone can get Kodak to do that it would be Spielberg. They talk a lot about being faithful, but just from the trailer, it seems like everything is tongue and cheek, when it shouldn't be. It should be another tale 20 year later and it should look exactly like it used to, EXACTLY. I will probably still enjoy myself thoroughly though. Very excited.

Joe, I was about five when Temple of Doom came out. I must've seen that 10 times before I even knew there was a Raiders. Twenty three years later I have the Indy box set and I'v e watched them all a few times. That trailer is so exciting, it captures the old spirit of going to the movies. It's great to see your still justa big kid like me. These moments remind us of why we sincerely dedicate our lives to this thing, why we do or wanna do what we do. This is why this film thing means so much to us.

Your living the dream now and someday soon I will be too.

What a goddamn age of critisizing know-it-alls we live in these days. Can't simple enjoyment come from a movie preview anymore?

Love, love, love that Indy...at any age.
He simply spans the generations on so many levels.
Can't wait!

"What a goddamn age of critisizing know-it-alls we live in these days."

Yourself included.

It just doesn't match the originals from what I see. I am a filmmaker so I can have an opinion about these things. In my opinion even the trailer should have been cut as if it was the 80s. Modern trailers are much different than those 20 years ago.

Also, what's with the CGI? These old guys, although I do love them, lose sight of things. CGI in an Indiana Jones movie? It's sacreligious. A lot of fans will agree.

"Can't simple enjoyment come from a movie preview anymore?"

Give me a break. Are we just supposed to blindly enjoy everything? They are trying to sell us with a movie preview. A movie is a product. We are all going shopping here so damn right we are going to be critical, at least we should be. Especially when they go back and tamper with stuff we love. The audience buys films, we own them after they are released. After all these years the thing keeping Indiana Jones alive are the fans. We own the box set. We own the memories of when we first saw the films.

I hate statements like yours.

I criticize because I love movies more than you will ever know. And the Indiana Jones films are extremely important to me. Frankly, they knew going in what they were dealing with. They are tampering with greatness. Just like Lucas did when he made the new Star Wars Trilogy. What's amazing is he has gone on record saying stuff like "there is no way I could have pleased the fans, they hated it before it came out." (paraphrasing) Well he is simply wrong, the fans know baloney when they see it. He failed, and I don't care if he created Star Wars. Star Wars belongs to the people, not George Lucas. You want to go back and continue the story it had better be like the day after Return of The Jedi. If he had made the films as good as the originals they would have grossed a billion each.

And from what I have seen of the Indy Teaser they didn't take it far enough in my opinion. I am hoping the movie will change my mind. Trust me I am hopeful and optimistic.

Movie goers should be more critical. The state of American Cinema is really low right now. Regardless of what people in the industry want to believe.

I got a warm fuzzy feeling inside...

This will be my first Indy film on the big screen. I think it's gonna be a blast.

I find myself surprisingly psyched to see this. I didn't realize how much of a hold this character and the movies had on me. That's what getting a little older does for ya! And before this gets into a pissing and moaning match about how this episode does or does not stand up to the previous films, this is just a teaser. So, they are purposely hitting all the known character elements to re-connect with the audience. Great cast & great director. Looks groovy to me.

Can't wait to see it either...'The Last Crusade' is my fave...I just loved everything about it...inc. sean connery and the whole "holy grail" thing. LOL! Special fx have come a long way since then...but I still get a hoot out of seeing that Nazi drink from the wrong cup and turn to ashes. LOL!

Happy Valentine's Day, Joe and the rest of you guys!! :)

it looks amazing, my jaw dropped when i watched the trailer

"Damn, I thought that was closer!" - ahah

For all the seriousness in cinema these days it's definitely cool to see a film like this come back. The type of Adventure films you used to watch as a kid and feel like you were "inside for the ride." And the best part - no transforming robots! LOVE IT! This brings out the "Goonies" geek in me BIG TIME!

PS. Joe - looking to shop my comedy, THE TEMP. I'd send this in e-mail, but I know you get bombarded and if anyone else out there knows of an agency looking for a good "Forty year old virgin meets Office Space" - I'd love to know.

Anyone catch Colbert's "Welcome back Writers" last night? Classic! That guy is f.ckin' hilarious!
