It's gotta be more than a little bit surreal to be walking in his steps - metaphorically of course, and meeting people who interacted with him.
I can't even imagine.

take notes of what jeffrey? the fact that a writer is doing research? that he is getting as close to a subject matter as possible? that he is talking to those involved? thats the job jerkoff.
if you want to write about an obsequious lackey

I just rented Smokin' Aces – enjoyed it thoroughly (brought back fond memories of my sniper instructor days…) ran out to rent Narc – loved it and cried for joy when Google revealed a new film is in the making by this fine director.
There's one question that's bugging me and I hope Mr. Carnahan will be so kind to reply or perhaps commentators to this blog will – is there a particular reason the main character in Smokin Aces is called Israel?

Fred - I don't give a shit what you say, brother because frankly, pick the day and I'd write circles around you. No bones...
That's what screenwriting is about and if you knew how many screenwriters jump on Wikipedia to do a search about their latest attempt at "crapdom" then you'd understand.
How many people do you think journey to a place like Colombia to do research on a script like Joe's doing? Your ignorance on how low that number goes is only indicative of your place.
Keep typing brother; something tells me this isn't the first time you've hid behind a monitor.
Joe's gonna kick ass whether I write here or not and I'm just a fan - pure, plain and simple. Last I checked, most of the people who come here are... every once in a while though we get some numbnut runnin' his mouth from his grandma's attic on a farm in Wisconsin. Here's my advice to that person: stay there.
