Guys:

Just set up two big studio projects last week and it looks like we're
going to be shooting a big portion of Pablo IN COLOMBIA, which is
really the only place you should make that film. Forget that with the
budget we have, we will get more bang for our buck there...it also stamps
and authenticates it in ways that Mexico or Buenos Aires
never could. I want real Colombians in this film. I want to really stand
in the streets where Pablo was detonating bombs week after week. You
can't replace that gravitas that brings and there's not a production designer on the
planet (sorry Martin!) that can sufficiently recreate what is endemic to
that country.

It wears its history. You can feel its past.

I've always said about 'Narc' that it was the most miserable experience I ever
had on a set. We had financiers that were lying to us, a crew that was on the
cusp of a full blown mutiny and cast members that were 'difficult' to say the least.
We're also shooting in Toronto and Detroit in the dead of winter. Nothing about
that process was ever easy...it was a total slog through the swamp...

...HOWEVER...

The combination of all those elements, though excruciating at times, was perfect for the
film we were making. All that dread wound up on film so I was thankful in the end
that it was such a painful process. The film wouldn't have been as good without it.

I think going to Colombia for Pablo and sticking that commitment is the same thing.
You add layers and significance that you aren't even aware of and something indelible
and truthful burns itself into the film...This is my hope.

Cranking now...

Rock and Freakin Roll, J.C!!

I can't wait to see how this film turns out. Thanks for your updates.

Colombia is so beautiful, and at the same time you have all this amazing violent history juxtaposed in every corner of the country. What a great opportunity to shoot a movie there.

When do you think you'll be down there filming?? Please post some pictures when you get down there.

Is the interaction gone?

Huh. Oh well.

Good luck Joe. See you around.

Glad to hear that you're shooting down there Joe.
I think its going to add to it. It's like how Mann finds all thsoe beautiful, exotic locations for his films wether its in LA, or the streets in Cuba.
You'll do the same and find some great places.
I can't wait to see this.

Still looking forward to seeing the little doc you put together.

Hey Joe,

I read the Sacramento Bee last week oh boy
Ten thousand holes in the Nomad
And though the holes were F*ng large
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes
To fill the Nomad’s elevator, penthouse suite and the rest of the fourteenth floor.
I guess the cost of repairs was the demise of the Nomad.

Well spoken, Joe. Sometimes in creative endeavors, things come out in the end product that you never even realized were there. Filming in Columbia would surely be a very good thing. Good luck and much success to you as you move forward.

Best Wishes, Wendy

It's always enjoyable to see your commitment in the things you do and the fact that you want to do them with care and honesty. This attention to detail is what I appreciate a lot from you and it's an important criteria when I decide to follow someone's work. So I'm definitely following yours and even if it the shooting will surely be complicated and maybe even painfull, I'm sure the result will worth it. ^^^

I have the same question as Alex Wild: when do you think you'll be down there filming?

Guys:

My apologies for not commenting or interacting as much as I probably should. I just get tired of the douchebags posting and it becomes a chore siphoning through the bullshit. I will try to do better about answering some questions.
